The Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto offers complete postgraduate training in paediatrics and paediatric subspecialties.

By the Numbers:

  • The Department has the largest core and subspecialty training programs in Canada with 17 Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada-accredited residency training programs.
  • Each year there are 80+ residents in the Core Paediatrics Program, and approximately 400 subspecialty residents and clinical fellows (both Royal College and non-Royal College affiliated).
  • Trainees currently represent 54 countries from around the world. 

The Paediatric Residency is fully approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Pediatrics.

There are two freestanding programs of the Royal College:

Paediatric Neurology: trainees do one year of paediatrics prior to entering their 4-year neurology program. 
Medical Genetics: trainees do approximately 6 months of paediatrics through the first and second year of their training program.

(Neither of these two specialities is certified as paediatricians at the end of their training.)
